Last updated: 9 June 2026

Effective date: 31 May 2026

MacÉireann ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is operated by Yarn Point Tours Ltd ("the Company"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the App, how we use and share it, the choices you have, and how we keep it secure.

By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Note on scope: Sections 1–13 describe how we handle data within the MacÉireann mobile app. Section 14 separately explains how our website at maceireann.ie uses cookies, analytics, and newsletter sign-ups. The website is distinct from the app — it does not require an account or access your device location.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

5. Legal bases for processing (EEA / UK users)

Where the GDPR (or UK GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

6. How we share your information

We share personal information only as described below. We do not sell your personal information.

6.1 Service providers (processors)

We use the following third-party services to operate the App. Each receives only the information needed to perform its function and is required to protect it:

Provider Purpose What they process
Supabase Accounts, authentication, and backend data storage Email, authentication data, profile/onboarding data
RevenueCat Subscription and in-app purchase management Purchase/entitlement data, app user identifier, device identifiers
Mapbox Maps, routing, and turn-by-turn navigation Location/route data needed to render maps and directions
Apple App Store / Google Play Payment processing and app distribution Payment and transaction data (handled directly by the store)
Expo / EAS App build and delivery infrastructure Technical/diagnostic data

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them:

6.2 Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or the public.

6.3 Business transfers

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership of your personal data.

7. International data transfers

Some of our service providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information in accordance with applicable law.

8. Your choices and rights

8.1 Location permission

You can grant, limit, or revoke the App's access to your location at any time through your device settings:

Note that disabling location will prevent location-triggered audio and navigation from working.

8.2 Your data-protection rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@maceireann.ie. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority — in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (https://www.dataprotection.ie).

8.3 Deleting your account

You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing info@maceireann.ie. Some information may be retained where required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes (see Section 9).

9. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, secure on-device storage of sensitive data such as authentication sessions, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at info@maceireann.ie and we will take steps to delete it.

12. Third-party links and services

The App may contain links to or integrate with third-party services (for example, opening an external maps application for directions). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their policies separately.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

14. Our website (maceireann.ie)

This section applies specifically to our website at maceireann.ie, which is separate from the MacÉireann mobile app described in the rest of this policy. The website is an information and marketing site: you do not need an account to use it, and it does not access your device location.

14.1 Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the website — for example, which tour pages are popular and how people arrive — so that we can improve it. This is the only analytics or cookie technology we use on the website.

Google Analytics may set cookies and collect information such as the pages you view, your approximate location (country or region, derived from your IP address, which is not stored in full), device and browser type, and the website that referred you. This information is pseudonymous and is not used to identify you personally.

We use Google's Consent Mode to keep this consent-based:

Google acts as our analytics provider (processor) for the website. To learn more, see Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Storage that is strictly necessary for the website and for remembering your cookie choice is always enabled.

14.2 Newsletter sign-up

If you enter your email address in a sign-up form on the website, we use it to send you trip-planning tips and news about new tours. We process this on the basis of your consent, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address at any time by emailing info@maceireann.ie.

14.3 Website hosting

The website is hosted on GitHub Pages, and newsletter sign-ups are handled through a service operated on Cloudflare. To deliver and secure the website, these providers process limited technical request data (such as your IP address and browser information) under their own privacy policies.

14.4 Legal basis (EEA / UK visitors)

For website visitors in the EEA or UK, we rely on your consent for analytics cookies and for newsletter sign-up, and on our legitimate interest in operating and securing the website for strictly necessary functions. You can withdraw your consent at any time as described above. The rights set out in Section 8.2, and the right to complain to a data-protection authority, apply equally to data collected through the website.
